Thanksgiving – True Meaning of The Spirit with Love & Gratitude

Thanksgiving at our house was always a beautiful experience.

Thanksgiving morning I remember my sister Mary and I would be so excited to watch the Macy’s day parade on Thanksgiving morning, just to get glimpse of Santa at the end making the opening of the holiday season. My mom would be cooking with the turkey in the oven along with the sweet potatoes. The aroma in our house was amazing! Priceless!

Thanksgiving every year was our American tradition as many celebrate. The main part of the Thanksgiving dinner table was my Dad’s talk was about us all being grateful for everything we have in our lives and count our blessings every day. Though at the time we were so young that we did not really understand the true meaning. We enjoyed the food and love from our family.

My parents both wanted us to understand and not lose touch that we have to be thankful every day not just on Thanksgiving but 365 days out of the year.
We grew up knowing that this was the way of life during the holidays to be thankful and grateful for everything no matter what.

As the years go by, sometimes people can get lost and lose the meaning and start stressing about sales, Christmas/ Holiday shopping, Black Friday specials, some camp overnight to get the best deal on laptops, 4K TVs and other things, this was not what we were taught growing up in the 70s and 80s.

These past few years the stores are now open on Thanksgiving afternoon, which takes away completely the meaning of why we spend Thanksgiving dinner as a family at the dinner table. Sure these things are great and there’s nothing wrong with them.
Now when most kids in the USA hear Thanksgiving is coming, the first thing they think of is Black Friday and look through the the Internet and  for the favorite Games, clothes and gadgets.

Holiday Stress

Oh this is when it starts to kick in, causing us to lose our true values of what Thanksgiving represents and what we want to teach our children and families.

We need to start bringing gratitude back into our homes, Remembering the true spirit of the holiday, no matter what culture, background or religion you are, the spirit of gratitude and being thankful is universal all over the world.

Yes it’s easy to get caught up in the holiday season and concerned about things that really don’t matter that are materialistic.

Thanksgiving no matter what part of the world you live in, is a day to accept everything that is in front of you, and cherishing it. This is a good time to make a difference, start a new tradition and make it memorable. There are many different things you can do to help people who are in need and alone this Thanksgiving.

Ways to express gratitude:

Expressing gratitude will help you focus on what is good and right in your life, instead of reliving or dwelling on negativities that you may have experienced.

Sometimes we are faced with challenges with family members, spouses and our Soulmates, this is a time not give negativity power, you have to be strong and stand up to what is truly in your heart – “Love”.

This is something you have to practice on a daily basis, I like to keep a daily journal of gratitude and send positive quotes on social media. Not only just to remind myself of the gratitude I have but also to inspire others as well.
Pray daily

I thank God and pray every day for the blessings in my life, no matter what religion you are always give thanks to God.

Count your blessings

I like write them down, giving thanks for everything that I have in my life and reading it when ever I may feel down, This will remind you on what you have to be thankful for.

Positive affirmations

I say positive affirmations every morning even when I’m not feeling positive. It happens to all of us we are human and in order to empower your spirit you need to be your own soul coach. It’s up to you to do this for yourself you need to love and cherish yourself in every area.

Meditation

I meditate every day and I focus on what I’m truly grateful for, if it’s a beautiful thing someone said to me, a beautiful day or just feeling beautiful inside, meditating on mindfulness will help you focus on the here and now.

Healthy lifestyle

As many of you know I am a strong advocate on Spirituality, health and fitness. I find that focusing on the most vital part of being, is my body, the vessel that holds my soul!

By eating healthy (occasional cheating is OK) and getting in as much physical activity as I can every day is not only doing good for my health but my soul as well. This will help you feel your best and in return allow you to focus on positivity and everything I’ve mentioned in this article.

Now is the time to start fresh. Be thankful for what you have, there may be hundreds of reasons to feel negative, just remember the many thousands of reasons you have to feel good about yourself.
